Ed Hess-Johnston.jpeg

Hello! My name is Ed Hess-Johnston, thank you for taking the time to view my work. For commissions, comments, or compliments, feel free to message me here!

My work explores the interplay of color, landscapes, and geometric shapes, blending moments of realism and abstraction to invite viewers into a new perspective. I earned my B.A. in Art Practice from UC Berkeley, where I began investigating the relationship between abstract forms and the built environment. At the core of my practice is a curiosity about the friction between reality and imagination. I use my art to push against the boundaries of reality, bringing fragments of imagination into the tangible world, testing how far those boundaries can stretch.

I believe life should be lived in color, through the art we create, the way we dress, and the lens through which we see the world. For me, color is a language of its own, carrying emotions that words can’t always express. Through vibrant hues and angular shapes, my work seeks to transform memories, break apart the literal, and rebuild them as symbols that speak to the tension between what is and what could be.
